Q-in-Q Tunneling allows us to extend layer 2 beyond WAN boundary. Q-in-Q allows customer to preserve 802.1Q VLAN tags across a WAN. Service provider will receive the tagged frame from the customer and add the additional 8021.Q tag in the frame header so called double tagged frame. SP assigns different VLAN tag to different customer in order to identify which customer the frames are belong to. This allows overlapping VLAN IDs between customers.
In addition, CDP and VTP packets are able to pass over Q-in-Q service also.

Provide Edge SW

switchport access vlan 100
switchport mode dot1q-tunnel
l2protocol-tunnel cdp
l2protocol-tunnel vtp
no cdp enable

description to CE
swtichport access vlan 10
From the configuration above, the VLAN tag will be 10 and 100. 10 for customer VLAN and 100 is for SP VLAN.
